About Mohammad-Baqer Majlisi

Allameh Majlesi (Molla Muhammad Bakir Majlesi, son of Molla Muhammad Taki), was born in 1037 A.H. and died in 1111 A.H. and buried in Atiq Mosque of Isfahan.

HIS SCIENTIFIC AND SOCIAL ROLE

Allameh was a religious leader of the Muslims in Isfahan who, controlled people’s affairs through his wisdom, and solved their problems. He was really interested in teaching and so many scholars took part in his classes. It is said that the number of the scholars in Riadh was estimated about one thousands.

Allameh traveled to Mecca and Iraq several times. His efforts to promulgate Islam were to the extend that it would sound correct if the Shi’ism was called as Majlesi’s religion, for the truly contributed Islam’s prosperity according to Abdol’aziz Dehlavi’s words in “Tohfeh” (Dehlavi’s book).

He was a brave and powerful person who ordered to obey God’s command and the one who avoided people doing evil deeds. In Sultan Hossein’s era, who was a notorious ruler for the lack of any discipline in his system, the country’s affairs were oriented due to Allameh’s management. However; when Allameh passed away, the province of Kandahar no more belonged to sultan and there was case of chaos and when the Afghanis came to Isfahan killed him, and ascended the throne.

Having been assigned the authority to control the Muslims’ affair by Shah Soleyman (1090), his first measure was his command on breaking the idols. Here comes the story: he did so when he was told that a group of Hindu merchants covertly continued the idolatry. The Indians offered the king a noticeable amount of money so that Allameh would ignore this and let them to send the idols to India. However; it did not work and as was ordered by Allameh, the idols were broken.

Having so many scientists around due to his good temper, Allameh contributed to the existence of some 1,202,700 books on Shi’ism. He either wrote them personally or had some other people write them. He passed away when he was 73. If one compare his years of age with the number of the written books, one will find out that annually 1925 lines consisting 15 letters had been written.

The numbers of Majlesi’s works are more than 60. Some of his important works are: Bahar Al-Anvar fi Akhbar Al-A’ emah Al-Athar (26 volumes), Meshkatol Anvar, Eynol Hayat, Jala Al-Oyoun, Helyatal Motaqin and Hayat Al-Kulub (4 volumes).
